The New Job Interview - What Can You Do For Me?

By : Tony Jacowski

As times change, the way that things work changes with them. What once used to be a formal discussion of your abilities and what you've done in the past has completely changed into a job interview where your main goal is to make your case for what you can do for the company that you're applying with. Going to a job interview is stressful enough, and having to prove your abilities and your worth to the company can make it even more hectic than you ever thought that it would be. However, there are a few things that you can keep in mind when it comes to succeeding in the new world of job interviews.

-First, pay attention to the advertisement or job listing, if there was one that you found when you applied for the position. Look at the key words they used and which things they specifically wanted. Highlight these skills and abilities on your resume so that they stand out and speak directly to the hiring manager.

-Make sure that you demonstrate your skills and abilities on your resume, and use the interview to offer insight as to how you would apply them to the position that you're interviewing for. The employer wants the information to be easy to figure out. They want you to spell out exactly why you are the best person for the job and what you have to offer their company.

-If you are applying in a different position or industry, figure out how your previous experience can transfer to the new job. For example, if you worked in a factory doing human resources and are now applying for a customer service job, you've already got great people skills and the ability to resolve conflicts, which is highly desirable in customer service.

-Don't fake it. Don't give out generic answers that you think they want to hear. They're waiting for this and can tell when you're not being sincere. Just be yourself and answer honestly so that you can ensure that you're the right fit for the job. Otherwise your entire career could hinge on you pretending to be something that you're not.

These tips are all going to be very helpful to you in figuring out how to get through a job interview, which is critical to the process of getting hired for a job. Make sure that you really take the time to prepare and just relax, because there is nothing to be nervous about. Just be yourself, show and tell them what you have to offer them specifically, and make sure that you do whatever it takes to provide the most honest and effective answers to their questions.
