How to Become a Forensic Accountant

By : Erick R Johnson

If you want to learn how to become a forensic accountant you will need to begin with an analysis of yourself and your skills to determine whether this job is right for you. Getting education and career information from a local college that offers accounting programs is also a good idea. A forensic accountant can be involved in anything from a simple police investigation into criminal activity to a government investigation on terrorist attacks, with a blended role involving both accounting and investigating.

If you are going to become a forensic accountant you will need skills such as confidence, curiosity, organization and the ability to look beyond what is on the surface. You will also need good communication skills so you can easily get up in front of audiences to present evidence with an air of credibility. If you think you have these skills, then you'll need to start working on your education. In order to be certified as a CPA (certified public accountant) or CFE (certified fraud examiner) you will need to get a bachelor's degree as well as a master's degree with an accounting specialization focused on the forensic side of things. This will prepare you to pass the certification exams. Membership in the American College of Forensic Examiners will also help with your career goals.

There are many places to look for forensic accounting programs, just make sure you choose an accredited institution of higher learning that offers all the tools you'll need to succeed in your career. If you're serious about this profession, you can also talk to federal and state government agencies, insurance companies, police departments and lawyers to see what kind of forensic accountants they hire and what the job entails. This will help you decide what specific path you want to take in the forensic accounting field.

Once you have your degree and have passed the certification exams, you can enter the forensic accounting field as an entry level accountant earning anywhere from $30,000 to $60,000 a year depending on your location and job description. In a few short years, though, your experience will prepare you to earn a six figure salary, especially if you work in the private sector.

You Can Become a Financial Planner

By : Susan Bean

If you like trying to make money into more money, then you should become a financial planner. A financial planner uses all resources at his availability, such as software, hunches, and graphs which show the trend of certain product growth, to determine what is going to occur in the market.

Analysts make decisions which, in turn, make them to decide whether to buy or sell for their clients. Oftentimes, now-a-days, all of these buy/and/sell trends are built-in to the software that you're using. They're designed to monitor the trends and then respond to them, making split-second decisions.

When people are experiencing frightening times, they basically just need for you to tell them that everything will be OK in the end. The thing that makes people so frightened is, they don't know what the outcome will be. When you give them something to trust in, even if the thing you give them to trust in isn't a guarantee, it makes them feel better about the situation.

To be a financial planner, then, is to uphold theories which hold the possibility that things will turn out OK if one just holds on long enough. When one keeps holding on instead of giving up hope, things get better. They didn't have the energy to do what was necessary before; but with a renewal of belief that things will turn out alright, they oftentimes can fight those feelings of fear and come up with the strength that's needed in order to follow-through and make things turn out in a good way.

A financial planner helps order their lives during a time when everything might seem to be thrown into chaos. Panic tells people to sell everything, run away, hide, go somewhere else. It tells them that whatever they have, that's the wrong thing. Get something else (it really doesn't matter what that something else is, to fear). Fear is a liar and must not be listened to.

If you are a financial planner, then you will be responsible to reduce people's fears. The reduction of people's fears does more than anything else to make things come out steadier and truer than they were before.

People have the tendency to make dumb decisions whenever there are troubled times. Money is a thing that can slip through your hands if you become frightened. "Got to sell... got to sell!" just keeps going through your brain when you're afraid. Or, just as irrationally, "...got to buy!" can replace that fear with another.

A financial planner's biggest job is to calm down their clients. Once someone has stopped panicking is the time to make decisions. The thing that has caused every market crash has been fear. The measures that have been instated to keep fearful things from making the market plummet are things which stop fearful reactions from taking over.

When you become a financial planner, you'll be learning how to deal with people's fears. You'll set their ability to feel that their future is more stable. Once that has occurred, people can make better decisions rather than just relying upon a bad sense to tell them what to do with their money.

What Would Be Your Financial Planner Job Description?

By : Susan Bean

If you want to make a career as a financial planner, you're going to need to familiarize yourself with a financial planner job description.

You will be helping to create a plan with either businesses or individuals so that they can better use their savings and income, balanced with their investments. You might either work for yourself, in a freelance condition, or you might be employed by some insurance company or other financial organization. Savings and loan establishments offer financial planning, as do banks, investment services companies, those who handle mutual funds or those who handle IRAs.

There are also tax sheltered investment plans and real estate. One decision that's currently being made is whether one should purchase gold as an investment. Back in the year 2000, gold was $278 an ounce. If you had been smart and purchased gold back in the year 2000, which I did, each ounce coin would now be worth $1200 apiece. Since I purchased 24 one-ounce coins, that means that my investment went up over four times in ten years.

I also purchased one platinum coin, which at the time was around $850. Now, platinum is over $1200 a coin. So, when you're doing financial planning, you should consider such things as gold, as well as stocks, bonds, and other methods of gaining security. At the time I had told all my friends to purchase gold; but nobody listened. That's the way with good decisions, you might see something very clearly whereas everybody else, because they've been thinking in the ways that people have thought for many decades, make poor decisions.

Thus, part of a financial planner job description should be, think on-your-feet. Don't just go by what everybody else is doing. They might all be doing it wrong. If you do it the right way, then you're the one who will be the right one even if you seemed to not know what you were doing back when you were doing it. One must always follow their gut instinct before everything else.

As a financial planner, you'll be helping people look at their long-term and near financial situations. Now, as opposed to any other period of recent past, you probably need a financial planner to help you assess what you should do. Fear creates bad decisions, and now's the time that you might make rash decisions that will affect the rest of your life. Not doing what fear is telling you to do is almost always the best choice at all times.

Financial planners are also sometimes called personal financial analysts. Some call them personal financial advisors or financial consultants. In each case, they will help you determine what to do in these times of tough economic straights. To get a handle on your fears, and see things in a more calm state of mind is always a good thing to do.

A financial planner job description would include the ability to tell people when the best time is to sell your home, whether you should take out a second mortgage on your house, what time you might start retirement, and such as those.

Are Sales Jobs in Jeopardy Because of the Internet?

By : Adrian F Alexa

Sales jobs have their own history and might stand for one of the oldest métier in the world. Trade turned into sales and this segment has simply exploded. Yet, lately, sales jobs have been somehow affected by e-commerce, an invention of the internet, which annihilated the role of a sale person by offering a simple and an easier alternative to the traditional selling-buying process for the supplier and the customer.

We all know that internet can get us anything. This is why selling matches perfectly the Internet phenomenon. In addition to this aspect, Internet supports another important factor in sales - advertising.

An amazing advantage of e-commerce over classic sales is the fact worldwide web connects directly advertising to selling. This flow is not interrupted as in the case of classic selling methods. Therefore, we can say that internet advertising generates more rapidly and more efficiently a higher sales volume. Given this fact, many companies have started focusing more on this niche and implicitly minimized the role of their employees who performed traditionally this job. Moreover, some companies developed their business exclusively on the e-commerce method.

In contrast to a local store, a site on the Internet that promotes products has many benefits related to costs. For instance, a site can visited anytime 24/24h, 7 days a week and you do not need to hire a person to be there. However, the customer could order the item that interests him as the e-commerce is designed to process orders automatically.

All in all, many sales person state the fact that classic jobs are losing importance as the Internet allow customers to buy a wide array of services and products at their own pace.

By : Adrian F Alexa

Career choices -that is for sure a tricky issue for many of us, simply because career impacts quite strongly all aspects of our lives. Having a good career means that we are given great chances to improve significantly our lifestyle and consequently our overall attitude. Yet, this fact is pretty much conditioned by the decisions and choices we make regarding our career. At this point people might fall under two different categories, explicitly, risk-takers, and safe-players.

Well, when it comes to our career, it is wisely to find the middle path so as we will benefit from both approaches. It is all about keeping the equilibrium between two different approaches. The better we counterbalance risks and safety, the more we will experience career achievements. There are few tips that you might find of much help each time you are in the position of making career choices.

Do not be too radical

Going for the radical option is nonetheless too risky. The most common mistake is changing radically your sphere of interest. Switching between careers is not the same thing as switching between areas of activity. Therefore, if you assume this risk you will have to start all over again as a novice or an apprentice although you have been considered an authority in your previous career.

Focus on new career options

If you are not satisfied with your current job, do something. First of all, reconsider your options, you might simply notice that you have new and quite alluring opportunities. Moreover, if you tried anything else to improve your work and nothing good happened then you should act fast.

Career Risks - Face Up the Fear of Failure

By : Adrian F Alexa

Building up a career is a challenge, it takes time, effort and of course a grain of luck. What happens when you do not pursue the path that you initially planned? Many have experienced episodes of failure, which might have dragged them down. It is important to manage wisely this kind of experience so as we will not let our pursuit be affected.

Therefore, if we want to cope with career failure, we should change our attitude, more precisely, we should approach from a different point of view all our endeavors. Here are some steps you may follow:

Risks is not equal to failure

Be being afraid of failure, we have an exaggerate tendency to associate risks with negative thoughts and implicitly the entire pursuit. We might call this a sort of auto-sabotage as if we voluntarily annihilate our perspectives to reach success. First of all, taking all the risks is the first step we make towards success. Try to envisage the positive side when you need to take further your career, soon you will realize that taking risks is worth considering.

Success is not a chain reaction

Mistakes, errors, wrong choices, call the as you wish, arre part of our lives. They make us stronger and quite often stand for a good lesson. Thus, each time you fail, think of how you can explore positively that particular experience. This strategy teaches you how to look for the bright side in all your attempts.

Be realistic

Self-confidence is nonetheless your key to career success, yet it is highly recommended to be fully aware of your own potential so that you will prevent a good row of deceptions related to your career.

Can a Degree Impact Significantly on Your Career?

By : Adrian F Alexa

Education has a key-role due to the fact that teachers' guidance prepares us for life. But how far ca we go in education? Each major phase or big step turns into a certificate, a diploma, or a degree. All these stand for educational rewards upon completion of a program and are supposed to help us find a job, to advance professionally.

If baccalaureate diplomas are these days more than necessary, degrees, and we are talking about the university level, are supposed to enlarge our career horizons. Although we know people that run their own business and yet, they have not been formally prepared for management, we should not ignore the importance of getting a degree for the following reasons:

Getting prepared within specific realms increases your options

Usually, a degree prepares you for a very well defined professional activity. It is not a general approach of various domains, since you have already accomplished this stage in elementary and secondary schools. As for secondary education, it helps you focus exclusively on your skills, interests, and opportunities.

Degrees are mandatory when it comes to specific positions and activity domains

In order to hold a particular job position or to practice a specific type of work you are required to complete a corresponding educational process. Sometimes, depending on the path you want to pursue or the career level you want to attain, there is more than necessary to earn a degree. For instance, there is no registered teacher who is allowed to teach in schools without having proven he is an accredited degree holder.

What NOT to Ask in a Job Application

By : Adrian F Alexa

In a hiring process, you want to be effective and productive, and narrow down your options as much as possible. Browsing through a pile of resumes takes up a lot of time and energy, and there's always the burden of having to read three pages of useless information to find one thing that would be relevant for the job opening you have. To avoid this burden, many companies choose to set up preprinted job applications, focusing on the fields they are most interested in. You can either let your human resources department design an effective job application form, or look into the services of various business-supply companies.

If you choose to design the application form without professional help from other companies, take the time to determine exactly how much information you really need. Require only the information you really need. Less is more, so stick to the essentials. Second of all, pay special attention to the questions you ask, so that they are not discriminatory or offensive in any way, and meet all federal and state laws. You cannot put questions regarding race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, nationality (you can ask, however, if the candidate is eligible to work in the U.S.), marital status, height or weight, arrests, political preferences, handicaps or any other question that would set discriminatory criteria.

Apart from the questions in the job application, there are also various other things you should not do in any stages of the hiring process:

-you cannot request the candidate to provide a photo before employment; it would be discriminatory and make you vulnerable for a trial;
-you can ask for the full name of the candidate, but you have no business in inquiring about his mother's maiden name, his wife's maiden name or anything like that; such a suggestion may generate various interpretations, and may come as just another way of asking about marital status;
-you can ask the candidate's address, but it is inadmissible to ask whether he owns or rents the residence, nor how long has he lived there;
-if you cannot directly ask the candidate how old is he, you also can't ask him when was he born, when did he graduate from high school, or any other questions meant to be a tip-off for age;

Basically, don't ask anything you don't really need to know. And let's face it, the law did not prohibit questions that are essential for finding good candidates. It simply excluded the ones which did not allow fair and equal opportunities. Ask just what is highly relevant for the job in question, and remember to require applicants to sign the application form and guarantee the accuracy of the information.

By : Rouge Khan

While most of their fellows spend their six wonderful years making fun of everyone round the block, there are teens who prefer making money during those precious years. Most of the parents and adults are of the thought that teenage is not a very ripe age to understand money and business. However, it may be the best time to learn to earn.

There are hundreds of teen wonder stories about teens who made a fortune out of the most strangely brilliant business ideas. The reason behind their success is not just sheer luck but the fact that teens have more energy and enthusiasm than their adult counterparts. As young people, they don't know any boundaries and therefore they have the abilities to reach beyond the boundaries. They think unconventionally and out of the box and take the whole process as an adventurous challenge.

Another fact that teenagers are successful is that they don't fear failures. They literally have nothing at stake and they don't have much responsibilities and obligations towards the family. Therefore, they feel free to try new things and don't fret over the possibility of failure.

Another interesting fact is that most successful teen entrepreneurs started their business without a big capital investment. There business started up as a personal hobby which emerged as a small business due to their utter dedication and passion. Later, these small businesses became successful ventures because the teens don't only relied on old school marketing strategies but rather used technology to their utmost advantages.

As the representatives of next generation o rule the world, teenagers have the power to change the world and its rules. Otherwise, there is no way someone can earn a fortune just out of Granny's jam recipes. So, if you are a teenager, better start working on your niche and start your own business because times wont be the same forever.

By : Nan McAdam

In our world today a lot of press is given to prejudice. What is prejudice? There are many definitions of the word. I would like to refer to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: "preconceived judgment or opinion (2): an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge" Even though it receives quite a bit of attention it is not a new phenomena. It has been around since the dawn of time. Did it start by helping our prehistoric ancestors survive in a hostile world? Since I am not an anthropologist, I won't be able to give you that answer.

Prejudice can effect every area of our lives. It is a learned response. We pick up quite a few of these from our parents and our family units. Unless we question these learned conditions in our lives we will be destined to continue them and pass them to the next generation.

Here's an example of this learned prejudice. When I met my husband I was amused by the fact that he had two foods he absolutely hated! One was raisins and the other, Lima beans. How could anyone not like raisins? They're sweet and chewy and make a great snack. I thought all children were raised with a box of Sun Maid raisins clutched in their hands. And, how could a Lima bean make him gag? I am not a huge fan of that particular bean, but I have never lost my lunch over a plump light green bean! When I met his family I found out that this profound dislike was shared by all his siblings, his mother and his grandmother.

When discussing food preferences it can be a humorous thing. But, when that same learned response happens with race, religion, sex and any other thing that stops us from expanding our personal interactions with others it becomes less humorous and downright detrimental to our lives.

Here's an illustration of this in the work place. Let's say that Fred has a realty company and he is looking for sharp individuals for his sales force. But, Fred doesn't like people with blond hair. A young man walks into Fred's office and sits down to interview for the job. He is young, ambitious and has all the right answers to Fred's question. But, because of Fred's prejudice to blond hair, this young man's application automatically hits the rejected pile. Why does that matter? There are plenty of applicants waiting in line to be interviewed. It matters if the man was a young Donald Trump. By not considering Donald because of his blond hair, Fred has cost his company millions of dollars and changed his family's financial legacy forever.

Jobs Opportunities in Dubai - The New Land of Opportunities

By : Shabbir Kagalwala

Having grown from a sleepy fishing town of around 6000 people to a bustling modern metropolis today, Dubai completely transformed itself over a period roughly between 40 to 50 years. Though it received a big push in the growth area from petro-dollars initially, Dubai realised that it could not depend upon this income forever. Testimony to this is the fact that today, the oil income forms roughly between 3 to 5 percent of it's total. The first boom came in when oil was newly discovered in the United Arab Emirates. Infrastructure related to oil drilling, exploration, and transportation of oil was created in The entire country, including Dubai. For this, experienced skilled and unskilled labour was required. Since the UAE itself had none of these, they opened their doors for workers from across the world. Taking advantage of this, workers from countries across the world came to work here. Not only were they paid more in comparison to their home countries, but, in some cases, the exchange value between the currencies was a great motivating factor. This helped the economy of UAE develop, and, everybody, including the Emiratis prospered.

Money liquidity created demand for all sorts of goods and services which were imported for distribution here. To take advantage of this business boom a lot of entrepreneurs set up businesses here from across the world. To establish a business in UAE, required an Emirati as a partner. This influx increased demand for more products and services like education, healthcare, housing, food, etc. The government ensured that all products and services offered here adhered to strict quality standards. To take advantage of this boom now, companies from across the world set up shop here. This made sense as more competition meant lower margins, which were offset by bulk sales. This was a turning point in the GOLD rush for Jobs Opportunities in Dubai.

Big, large projects were announced in the office, residential, commercial spaces due to entire townships being erected like the Dubai International Finance Center, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Dubai Sports City, Dubai Healthcare City etc. The number of schools, colleges, hospitals and Nursing homes too grew in a frenzy to cater to the population of not only Dubai or UAE, but that of the entire Middle East and North African (MENA) region. In fact, these are now also attracting the nationals of the countries of the erstwile Soviet Union.

The global financial meltdown of 2008 hit UAE very hard. It experienced a crash in it's real estate sector like never before. Business was hit very hard. Almost every company announced major layoffs and no plans to recruit afresh for a big period of time. Many foriegners working here left for good. The Construction industry, that had been a strong engine of growth for Dubai had had it's brakes jammed hard. However, all this did more good than bad. All the dead weeds of the economy got pulled out. The economy is back on track and starting to grow too. But it is now more efficient than ever before. Excellent Jobs Opportunities in Dubai are coming up now, but strictly for the deserving candidate only. Dubai now wants the best of the best. Their strategy is to attract high quality talent with top of the line salaries and perks.

By : Anna Marie Narras

There are people who are starting to wonder if all the good things they hear about pharmacy technician jobs are true. Type in pharmacy technician jobs on your internet search engine and you'll read about how high the demand and that the need for this job will continue to grow in the coming ten years, or so. If that is so, why is it that there are those who couldn't get be in this profession even though they are qualified for the job openings because they're finished a training program. Now, there are individuals in this profession that are beginning to wonder if the certification they're carrying is as important as what those internet articles are claiming.

Many people who signed up and finished pharmacy technician training courses assumed that after doing so, pharmacies and other companies looking for applicants will come knocking at their doors. There are also some people who were certified by either PTCB or ICPT that are in the same boat as the previously mentioned group of people that believes getting pharmacy technician jobs is that easy. Even if you're already certified, you still have to go out and present yourselves to potential employers. Some experienced jobseekers will even tell you that job hunting is a job in itself.

The question for now, I guess, is how to start looking for such jobs, but the better question IMHO is where to look. While we're on the subject, if you don't know what IMHO stands for (In My Humble Opinion), that only means you're also not aware of the many advantages that the internet can give your career. IMHO is a common abbreviation used by experienced users of the internet and they are very well aware also that you can find many things on the internet. Most job ads for this career can be found on the internet because companies that have needs for that position are posting them online. Try searching for these companies' websites because that's where they usually post the list.

If you're still considering signing up for a training program and don't know yet which school to enroll in, consider the school that have a job placements assistance program for their graduates that will help them find pharmacy technician jobs. Obviously, that will be a great help when you're just starting your career. You can also join professional groups like the NPTA, a society for pharmacy techs. Professional groups like the NPTA usually have programs and special events exclusive only for group members where they can find potential employers or help them become aware of the latest developments in the said field.

The worst thing that you can do is be discouraged and give up finding a job is when you hear other people failing to land a job of their own. Some people can't get themselves hired for this profession because of a lot of possible reasons. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, almost a hundred thousand new pharmacy technicians will be needed in the next decade, and that means the job opportunities will be out there. Finding a job is not that easy, you have to work hard for it, too but eventually, you will find that one job that you really like.

10 Steps to Take Before You Get Laid Off

By : Shell Lisoskie

Imagine you are sitting in your office, busy working on the next deadline, when your boss comes in with someone from HR, shuts the door and proceeds with, "As you know, our region hasn't been as profitable as we had hoped..."

The next thing you know, you're driving home with a car full of "personal effects". You would probably spend the rest of the afternoon in shock, trying to figure out what to do next, right?

Well, what if, within minutes of getting home, you could have interviews already set up for the next week and a plan in place that would all but guarantee a job offer within the next 90 days!

It happened to me, but I wasn't in shock - instead I had my plan and by 4 pm on the same day that I was laid off, I had 2 in-person interviews and 4 phone interviews scheduled for the following week. And things progressed from there. Within less than 12 weeks I had landed a better job, with a better company. The pay was a bit less than I had earned before, but the opportunity was solid, provided professional growth and I didn't have to relocate.

How did I get back into the workforce so quickly compared to the majority of unemployed executives out there whose average wait time is over 12 months? While there are no guarantees in life, I can assure you that if you follow the same 10 steps I did, you will be in a much better position to get the interviews and negotiate for a great opportunity in less time than it's taken the average person out there.

Step 1: Accept change - The concept of the gold watch after 30 years has not been a reality in the workplace for a few decades now. But I'm still amazed at those who still believe their job will be around forever at the same company. Whether you move into a different position at the same company or leave and go to a competitor, your work life will change. And it may not always be your choice.

Step 2: Know your limits - We would all like to think we are the best at what we do, but that's simply not true. There is always someone out there who's better, and someone who's worse. You need to figure out where you and your skills land in the bell-shaped curve of the talent pool. This level of personal reflection will guide you through Step 3.

Step 3: Reach your potential - The fact that you have a degree doesn't mean you are done training. And if you don't have a degree or professional certification, it's time to take a serious look at where you are in comparison to others in your profession. Like I pointed out in Step 2, you need to evaluate where you sit in the talent pool. Are you diving in and beating the competition? Floating at the shallow end? Drowning in the middle? Or are you just sitting on the side, dipping your toes in the water?

Step 4: Get a study buddy - I'm not talking about a mentor, here. That's for Step 5. I'm talking about partnering with one of your co-workers who's in a similar position or place in his career. You don't have to be enrolled in school to have someone to study with. Maybe you two just pick a book you are going to read together and discuss. Or perhaps you are going to take a seminar or class together, then apply what you learn at work. You might take the plunge and enroll in a degree or certification program. Whatever you decide to do, you must hold each other accountable for outcomes.

Step 5: Find a mentor - I prefer to find a mentor from outside my current company. I look for people within my community or association groups; someone I admire and trust to give me an objective
viewpoint on my situation and personal growth, and who will tell it to me straight. A great mentor will commit to helping you get to the next level in your professional life. Your mentor doesn't need to be from your industry, but it can be helpful and I would suggest it if you are in an industry that is highly specialized.

Step 6: Become a joiner - Up until now, you may have resisted joining a professional association because of the cost and time commitment. Well, if an obvious mentor didn't come to mind during Step 5, then you definitely need to belong to a professional or civic organization where you will meet potential mentors. Active participation in these groups requires scheduling and commitment, but is worth it.

Step 7: Be a great employee - No matter what your boss throws at you, catch it with a smile and make it work. Keep your negative opinions to yourself and be the resident cheerleader for your department. In the spirit of President Kennedy, ask what you can do for your company, not what your company can do for you. If you do this, you can leave (or get laid off) and proudly talk about your excellent track record as a deal maker, problem solver, and motivator. Your coworkers and other supervisors will appreciate you while you are there and will be able to speak well of you after you leave.

Step 8: Promote yourself - If you wait until you lose your job to advertise your skills and experience, it will be too late. The days of sending resumes and cover letters are over. Online application systems are just electronic versions of the "circular file". Your resume goes in and gets chewed up by key-word finders, then lost in the shuffle. The old adage, "It's not what you know, it's who you know," has and always will be the mantra to success. Use social and professional networking sites, blogs and emails to get the word out about projects you're working on and developments you have been a part of.

Step 9: Keep working - If you get laid off, don't expect to use this time as a mini-vacation. On the contrary, your first new job will be to get a new job! Take advantage of this time to plan your strategy based on these steps and other career planning tools available to you.

Step 10: Have a back-up plan - Most financial planners will tell you to have at least the equivalent of 6 months' salary in savings available for emergencies such as being laid off. That's a great goal, but one that seems unattainable to most people. If you don't already have money saved up, then get started now! Several banks have debit card plans that allow you to "keep the change" on every transaction. This may seem like the nickel and dime approach, but have you ever filled a jar with change? It adds up quickly. Find another income stream. Do you have a specialized skill? Offer your services through your associations.

As I said in the beginning of this article, don't wait until you are laid off to plan your strategy. And if you have already been laid off and are still looking for work, these steps can still help you. The point is, don't wait for someone else to decide your life. Take control and do what you can now to set yourself up for success in the future.

Jobs in Dubai are flourishing and so, are the migrants with countless professionals moving to the city for work purposes. Many uncertainties cloud people's minds while taking a life changing decision of leaving the home land and moving to a new unknown place. Middle East is thought to be mysterious by many since not much is known about the region and what adds to the enigma is its conservative approach. But, Dubai is different from the conservative ideologies as it presents a unique melange of people from different nationalities. With people from almost all parts of the world coming together at one platform to work, Dubai comes across as a cosmopolitan city. One can definitely brush his/her intellectual skills in the city by meeting such different kind of people and create a better view on things.

Now, it is extremely important to know the place one is migrating to get used to it easily. The first thing after going through the work contract and exploring lifestyle followed in Dubai is to get hang of the working conditions in the city. So, let us take a look at the salaries, the professional environment and other such things to be familiar with the place. This is important to set right expectations and get easily adjusted to the new environment of the emirate.

- The salaries are much higher as compared to other parts of the world, even greater than those in Western Europe. The most lucrative thing about salaries in Dubai is that they are tax-free, so one keeps the entire amount one earns without paying anything to the government. They mostly include basic salary, accommodation, transportation, medical benefits, incentives, bonus and various other components (like education for children and air tickets for home visits).

- Jobs in Dubai are mostly contract based and so, more often than not, professionals are hired on temporary basis. The bonus may or may not be included in contractual jobs as it is paid later in the form of end of service benefits. This amount is given to the expatriates by law depending on the duration of the contract in order to thank them for their expert services and contribution to the economy.

- The day starts early in Dubai with work timings of 9 hours usually from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The working hours are generally reduced to 6 in the month of Ramadan though this may or may not apply to foreign professionals. Their weekend off is on Fridays and the second one may be either on Thursdays or on Saturdays. Even schools are closed on Thursdays and Fridays, so this weekend is preferable though many international companies choose to go for a weekend on Fridays and Saturdays.

So, some of the conditions may be a little unusual for expat professionals and this is why it is emphasized that one must know well about them even before applying for jobs in Dubai. If one is joining a reputed company, things get easier and better compensation than usual can be expected as well. All employees are treated with equal respect and fairly without any preference for locals. What encourages most to look for jobs in Middle East is that expats are welcomed with open arms in this region.

Career Opportunities in Emirates' Ajman

By : Deepika Bansal

The rapidly growing emirate of UAE, Ajman has been experiencing tremendous developments from last few years. Located along the Persian Gulf, it is bordered majorly by Sharjah, another emirate in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). It has grown considerably from an unknown city housing few thousands to today being not only a popular emirate but a career destination as well. Jobs in Ajman are sought after by many as opportunities have multiplied manifold.

Jobs in Middle East are lucrative to millions of expats who dream of working overseas while earning hefty salaries. UAE is an especially favored destination with Dubai and Abu Dhabi being the hotspots followed by Sharjah. Next comes Ajman, literally meaning 'small city' in Arabic and it actually is the smallest in terms of area. Apart from the main city, it has two inland enclaves- Masfut and Manama-that are primarily agriculture based. In wake of the growing movement of people within the emirates, the population of Ajman has seen a massive increase. This rise in populace has generated the need for better living and working environment leading to developmental works across the emirate. Consequently, jobs in Ajman have grown providing opportunities to those with relevant training and experience to join the enirate's workforce.

The healthcare and real estate sectors in Ajman are witnessing a boom with government working toward improving it. Lots of money is being spent to make progress in these sectors as their development is the need of the hour. Moreover, both these sectors show ample scope and potential for expansion being neglected for decades. What makes the focus apparent in the healthcare sector is the conversion of a medical college into Gulf Medical University (GMU). Not only this, its Hospital Group is the largest provider of healthcare services not only in the emirate but in the entire UAE. This obviously means that medical jobs in Ajman are in plenty awaiting skilled healthcare experts who can add value to the industry.

Similarly, the real estate sector sees a huge inflow of investments with Ajman offering freehold property to investors of all nationalities. This means that it is the second emirate in UAE after Dubai to allow fully transparent 100% freehold ownership on property. The scheme has proved extremely lucrative to investors both within and outside the UAE as many show interest in buying property in Ajman. This has helped boost the real estate industry so much so that government is now planning more developmental projects to cater to the demand. As a result, various residential, commercial and retail projects are in the pipeline promising to transform the skyline of the emirate. Along with the city, its peripheries are also expected to be adorned with residential villas, commercial complexes and shopping malls. Such large scale development is not possible without the sufficiently trained manpower that can carry out all kinds of tasks- from planning to execution to monitoring. Therefore, construction jobs in Ajman are increasing in numbers with demand for professionals required at all levels and stages.

Even though Ajman is not a very developed city, it has been witnessing developments from last 2 years. It has got its own football club too called Ajman Club, one of the biggest in United Arab Emirates. The mode of transportation is through taxis but they cost very cheap i.e. Dh3 as the basic tariff. Jobs in Ajman can be fun for those aiming at earning good money in a short period of time. Since, there are not many recreation sources, one does not get to spend the money at all ultimately saving all what one earns.
