There is a lot of confusion it seems between nursing and physician assistant jobs. The reality is that they are very different and the purpose of this assistant is closer to that of a doctor than a nurse is. But what does a physician assistant do?
A physician assistant, also known as a PA or physician associate, is a professionally licensed professional in the health care industry that can practice medicine under the supervision of a real doctor or physician. They are trained similarly to a doctor, but they cannot act alone.
So, what do physician associate jobs entail? Firstly, they can provide a broad range of health services that usually are offered by a regular doctor. In addition, they are responsible for:
* preventing illnesses and diseases
* maintaining patient good health
* treating injuries, disorders, diseases and conditions
* assisting a doctor during surgery
* writing prescriptions
* giving health care counselling
* ordering tests interpreting tests
* making a diagnosis
* conducting physical examinations
* make medical decisions based on what their supervising doctor determines
* complement physical medicine
* do not do basic clinical or administrative tasks
If you compare physician assistant jobs to nursing ones, the differences are obvious. Mainly, nurses cannot prescribe medicines or perform some of the more detailed tasks that doctors would normally do. Though the physician assistant is a professional position in its own right, it is also a stepping stone by which many choose to use prior to entering further training to become a fully-fledged doctor. However, they take a different path, not going through the doctor training levels that normally would be seen in hospitals and other medical institutions. Therefore, if you are looking for a job as a physician assistant, ensure that you have the proper training as it is not to be confused with a junior doctor or a high ranking nurse.
